SDEV to visit Xian and Luoyang

The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a 250-member Hong Kong delegation to attend the 2011 Mainland and Hong Kong Construction Industry Forum in Luoyang, Henan Province, from May 27-30.

The forum, jointly organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Development Bureau, has been a major annual event since 1997 for stakeholders of the construction industry in Hong Kong and the Mainland to share professional experience and expertise.

More than 400 professionals, Government officials, academics and industry players, as well as members of 16 professional institutes from Hong Kong and the Mainland, will participate in the forum this year.

Entitled "Sustainable Urban Forum: Preservation and Development of Historical and Cultural Cities", the forum will see participants sharing their views at two discussion sessions: one on sustainable development and preservation of historical and cultural cities, and the other on construction capability.

Mrs Lam and the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Mr Qi Ji, will officiate at the forum's opening ceremony on May 28, and Mrs Lam will deliver an opening address. The Chairman of the Antiquities Advisory Board, Mr Bernard Chan, will also speak at the forum.

Mrs Lam will then lead the delegation to conduct site visits to historic places, museums and urban development projects in Luoyang and Zhengzhou on May 29 and 30.

Before attending the forum in Luoyang, Mrs Lam will pay a visit to the Hong Kong Garden at the International Horticultural Exposition 2011 held in Xian on May 26. The Hong Kong Garden was designed and built by the Architectural Services Department. Mrs Lam will receive a briefing from the Department's officers during the visit. She will also take the opportunity to learn about the city's heritage conservation works.

Mrs Lam will return to Hong Kong on May 31.
