Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2010 Mainland and Hong Kong Construction Industry Forum in Fuzhou today (June 20), the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, urged 280 professionals from the Hong Kong construction sector to support the Government's proposals for electing the Chief Executive and forming the Legislative Council in 2012. The package of proposal will be put to vote in the Legislative Council on June 23, 2010.

"These proposals represent a very important step in Hong Kong's democratic development. We cannot afford to stand still," said Mrs Lam.

In her opening address, Mrs Lam outlined the measures adopted by the Government in promoting green buildings in Hong Kong. She said that in order to rise to the global challenge of climate change, all parties had to work together.

Mrs Lam also took the opportunity to update Mainland and Hong Kong's participants at the Forum on the progress of the reconstruction projects in the Sichuan Province funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

"With the voluntary participation of members of the construction industry in Hong Kong, this reconstruction programme also represents solidarity and joint support of the Hong Kong's construction sector," said Mrs Lam.
