Secretary for Development speaks about Noah's Ark

Following is the transcript of the Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, speaking to the media after visiting Noah's Ark in Ma Wan Park today (May 16):

Reporter: (on the benefits of Noah's Ark for Hong Kong)

Secretary for Development: I think this project has special benefit in a number of ways. Firstly, it signifies a new form of partnership between the Government and the private sector, particularly the developers, that through collaboration and the making use of the expertise and experience of the private sector, we could create much more wonderful public facilities, through their creativity and innovation. Secondly, of course, the developer has pledged to operate on a non-profit-making basis, and to bring in further expertise of Hong Kong's non-governmental organisations. As you can see, these NGOs have developed very worthwhile programmes. Thirdly, I believe having spent two hours here, it really gives you a very uplifting spirit, and that you will have a better appreciation of the nature and environmental protection.

Reporter: (inaudible)

Secretary for Development: As the developer said, it is not just another theme park. This is really a park that has very worthwhile rationales behind it, that is, try to build up family relationship. I really would encourage families to come. Thank you very much.
