Waterworks (Amendment) Regulation 2017 gazetted

The Waterworks (Amendment) Regulation 2017 was gazetted today (May 19) to update the applicable standards cited in Schedule 2 of the Waterworks Regulations (Cap. 102A).

The main revisions are:

(1) amendments to the definition of the standards applicable to pipes and fittings for plumbing works; and
(2) updates on Schedule 2 of the Waterworks Regulations (Cap. 102A) to specify the applicable technical requirements and standards for plumbing materials.

"The construction and installation of plumbing systems are required to comply with the requirements prescribed in the Waterworks Ordinance (Cap. 102). With the Amendment Regulation, the latest applicable technical requirements and standards for plumbing materials are clearly set out in the law," a Development Bureau spokesman said.

"We have consulted professional bodies, plumbing trade associations, plumbers associations, workers association, the construction sector, developers, the Consumer Council, the general public and the Panel on Development of the Legislative Council in finalising the proposed amendments."

The Amendment Regulation will be tabled at the Legislative Council on May 24. Subject to approval by negative vetting, the revised amendments will come into effect on July 14, 2017.

A brief on the Amendment Regulation is available at the Development Bureau's website: www.devb.gov.hk/en/legco_matters/legislative_council_papers/index.html.
