SDEV speaks to the media

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, at a media session after attending the meeting of the Legislative Council Panel on Development today (July 15):

Reporter: Some people said that there are thousands of hectares of land available for development. You addressed that question during a panel meeting. Would you please explain again?

Secretary for Development: This is a misunderstanding. Last year when we replied to the Legislative Council about the unallocated land, a figure of about 4 000 hectares was mentioned. But subsequently we gave a very detailed breakdown of how this figure was arrived at. In fact, after all the analysis residential unallocated area amounts only to 391.5 hectares. Most of them cannot be used for gainful development because many of them are between developments or behind the roads, which is very difficult, if at all possible, for development. Thank you.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
