Chief Executive appoints new-term Harbourfront Commission members

The Government announced today (June 28) that the Chief Executive had appointed 30 members to serve on the Harbourfront Commission (HC) for a two-year term from July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2015.

The new-term HC comprises 12 non-official organisation members, 10 non-official individual members (including the Chairperson) and eight official members. Mr Charles Nicholas Brooke is re-appointed as the Chairperson of the Commission.

The Secretary for Development, Mr Paul Chan, who will continue to assume the position as Vice-Chairperson of the Commission, welcomed the appointments and re-appointments.

"Since its establishment in July 2010, the HC has been adopting an open and transparent approach in listening to the views of the general public, concerned groups, the business community and other stakeholders, and providing constructive and practicable advice to the Government on harbourfront planning, design, management and other related matters," Mr Chan said.

"The appointed non-official members come from a wide spectrum of backgrounds including transport, environmental protection, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, surveying, urban design, engineering, business, legal, finance, accountancy, real estate and District Council. I am sure that, with their wide range of experience and expertise in various fields, they will provide valuable input to the work of the HC."

The membership has expanded from 28 to 30 in the new term. Twenty-four of the members are re-appointed members, including the Chairperson. The five new non-official appointees are Mr Chan Ka-kui, Mr Walter Chan Kar-lok, Mrs Ayesha Abbas Lau Macpherson, Mr Brian David Li Man-bun and Mr Raj Sital Motwani. The Permanent Secretary for Development (Planning and Lands) has joined the Commission as an official member in the new term.

"The newly appointed non-official members come from diverse business and professional backgrounds, and their experience and expertise will bring new perspectives to the work of harbourfront enhancement," Mr Chan said.

"I wish to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to Mr Brooke for his able chairmanship and all the re-appointed and outgoing members for their dedication to the work of the Commission in the past three years. I look forward to our continued close partnership with the Commission and other stakeholders in creating an attractive, vibrant and sustainable harbourfront for the people of Hong Kong."
