CEDD awards contract for Wan Chai Development Phase II project

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (January 29) awarded the fourth contract for the Wan Chai Development Phase II (WDII) project.

The works under the $3,350-million contract mainly comprise land formation and construction of the Central-Wan Chai Bypass (CWB) in Wan Chai West, building of the Middle Ventilation Building substructure and a stormwater box culvert, and associated roadworks.

The works will start on January 31 and are scheduled for completion by mid-2017 to tie in with the CWB's commissioning the same year.

The key purpose of the WDII project is to provide land from Wan Chai North to North Point for construction of the CWB. The land formed upon completion of the WDII will also be developed into a world-class waterfront promenade lining the new Central waterfront for public enjoyment.

The WDII works commenced at the end of 2009 and are progressing smoothly. The works for the CWB tunnels are also being carried out at full speed in various sections in Wan Chai North, including those in the newly formed land and above the Tsuen Wan Line of Mass Transit Railway.
