Suspension of fresh water supply to Southern district

The suspension of fresh water supply to Shouson Hill area in Southern District caused by a burst water main at Wong Chuk Hang Road yesterday (February 8) is expected to continue overnight.

The Water Supplies Department is still doing repair work on the water main.

The affected premises are bounded by Shouson Hill Road, Shouson Hill Road East, Shouson Hill Road West, Deep Water Bay Road and Deep Water Bay Drive.

Fresh water supply to Chung Hom Kok area, bounded by South Bay Road, Headland Road, Chung Hom Kok Road and Cape Road, as well as Repulse Bay area, bounded by Repulse Bay Road, Beach Road, South Bay Road, Ma Hang Estate, Lung Tak Court and Regalia Bay, was also affected due to the prolonged repairs and suspended from 1pm and 3.30pm respectively today. The fresh water supply to Chung Hom Kok area and part of Repulse Bay area is expected to resume progressively from 10pm today.

"The main burst because a pipe bend and its surrounding concrete thrust block became detached when underlying soil subsided because of recent heavy rainfall.  The repair work is taking longer than expected as we have to work underneath numerous utilities such as gas mains, water mains and cables," a spokesman for the Water Supplies Department said.

Water tanks and water wagons have been arranged to provide a temporary water supply for residents in the affected areas.
