Consultancy agreement for Tai Po Water Treatment Works signed(With photo)

The Water Supplies Department (WSD) today (June 5) signed a $70 million consultancy agreement with Black & Veatch Hong Kong Limited for the expansion of Tai Po Water Treatment Works and ancillary raw water and fresh water transfer facilities.

The agreement covers consultancy service to increase the capacity of Tai Po Water Treatment Works and the ancillary raw water and fresh water transfer facilities from 250,000 cubic metres to 800,000 cubic metres per day.  With the expansion, the WSD will be able to offer more reliable water supply to the territory.

The project will upgrade the existing facilities and construct additional water treatment facilities at Tai Po Water Treatment Works, increase the pumping capacities of the ancillary raw water and fresh water pumping stations, increase the storage capacity of the existing Butterfly Valley Fresh Water Primary Service Reservoir in Kwai Tsing, and lay new fresh water mains in Sham Shui Po and Kowloon City.

The proposed expansion works will be carried out under separate construction contracts with the first one scheduled to begin in early 2010.  The other construction contracts will start in early 2011.

About 2,100 jobs in the construction industry will be created by the entire project.  The WSD will endeavour to create more jobs in the construction industry in the near future by implementing other waterworks projects.
