Consultation on engineering options for new prison at Hei Ling Chau

The Civil Engineering Department (CED) has commissioned a two-stage consultancy study to examine the engineering feasibility of the land formation and infrastructure works for a new prison complex at Hei Ling Chau.

The study will also identify the potential impacts arising from land formation and infrastructure works and work out proposals for mitigation measures.

The consultant is now assessing various options of land formation and infrastructure works under stage 1 of the study.

Since December 8, 2003, CED and the consultant have been meeting representatives from local communities, environmental groups and other interest groups to gauge their views on the study. The views will form a valuable input to the assessments and refinement of the options. A preferred option will then be drawn up for the next round of consultation.

Public enquiries may be directed to the Development Division of the CED (tel.: 2762 5670; fax: 2714 0079 or e-mail: enquiry@cedd.gov.hk).
