Land and Building Advisory Committee discusses proposed Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme

At the meeting today (November 15), the Land and Building Advisory Committee (LBAC) was consulted on the implementation details of a proposed mandatory building inspection scheme, window safety enhancement options and support measures as set out in the public consultation paper on mandatory building inspection published by the Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau in October 2005.

Members generally supported the proposed mandatory building inspection scheme as a practicable and effective long-term solution to address the problem of building neglect, and provided their comments on the implementation details.

Based on the community consensus reached in the first stage public consultation on building management and maintenance conducted in late 2003/early 2004, the Government has launched the second stage public consultation on a proposed mandatory building inspection scheme and related issues. The consultation exercise will last until January 31, 2006.
