Government's response to WKCD procession

In response to a procession relating to the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) project, a Government spokesman today (December 25) said:

"We understand that we must have the backing and support of the community in order that we can build an ideal arts and cultural district.

Since the launching of the public consultation of the screened-in proposals in mid-December, a total of 23,905 visitors - a daily average of 2,656 have visited the exhibition at the Hong Kong Science Museum as at December 24. This is an indication of the interest the community has on the development.

We would like to encourage more people to visit the exhibition as well as take part in the series of discussion forums organised by the Government to give their views on the development proposals.

The WKCD project hinges on the wish of the community. The views of the community will play a pivotal role in the next phase of our work. We will adopt an open mind and listen carefully, and will respect and fully consider the public's views."
